Having Fun

Sometimes the best way to bond with teammates and build a strong team is to have fun. Game nights or fun activities are especially important at the beginning/end of each semester when new students are coming in. Here are a few ideas for fun:

Game nights:

  • The infamous Bunny Bunny

  • Themed game nights like The Hunger Games, Olympics, etc.

  • Board games/card games night

  • Outside games like Man Hunt, Capture the Flag, etc.

  • Full-team games like Mafia

Holiday parties:

  • Winter party with white elephant gift exchange

  • Halloween party, movie night, Haunted Houses, pumpkin patches, etc.

  • Friendsgiving!

  • Galentines

Get to know each other games:

  • Fun icebreakers (not Two Truths and a Lie or other cheesy ones used in class)

  • One person will be a moderator and have everyone answer a set of random, fun questions without sharing their answers. Break into teams, and each round, the moderator will read a question about one person from a team. The opposite team has to guess the answer. If they are right, they get a point.

  • When having game nights, split people into teams or pairs based on a question instead of random draw (e.g. if you prefer action movies over romance movies, you are on team A). You can always adjust teams as needed to make it balanced, but this is another small way to get to know each other

  • Go to practice rooms/areas even when you don't have practice.  If you have practice at 4:00, why not come to the practice room at 3:00? If you have a meeting for a different extracurricular activity at 3:30, socialize with the forensics team until then! This is a great way to hang out with other team members, get to know each other, ask questions, or even do some extra peer-practicing—though just hanging out is okay too :)

  • These games are especially important at the beginning of the season because they help you learn about your teammates and are a great way to bond with each other.
